Hosted by the Faculty of Children’s Nurse Education at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, this annual study day presents topics related to the care of children with emphasis on their care and treatment in the healthcare setting.

The Trainee Nursing Associate Programme seeks to prepare students to care for patients across the lifespan. However, the university course content rarely covers paediatric perspectives in any depth.  Nursing Associates caring for children require a greater understanding of the specific needs of children in order to fulfil the NMC code and provide safe and effective care for children and their families.

It is therefore pertinent to provide an opportunity to explore subject areas that are fundamental to the care of children, recognising the child's changing needs as they grow and develop. Similarly, it is desirable that the Nursing Associate has relevant knowledge and understanding of how the child is cared for by family the state in order to provide safe child and family centred care.

This study day provides information concerning the child's physical, social, psychological and cognitive development as well as explores the environment  and legal and social constructs supporting their care.  There are opportunities throughout the day to apply these concepts to practice.
