Speaker: Karl Howells, Health Play Assistant BRCHKarl is a Play Assistant currently working on Seahorse ward (Paediatric Intensive care Unit). He has worked there for nearly 3 years and as a play assistant for over 5 years. His role involves providing and supporting general play activities and procedural distraction play on the unit. He aims to alleviate worries & fear using distraction play. He promotes development and provides play opportunities to prevent regression whilst in hospital. He acts as an advocate for children on the ward.
